Des séminaristes catholiques ont été transférés de Dublin à Rome, à la suite de possibles relations homosexuelles au sein du collège pontifical Saint-Patrick, via notamment l'application de rencontres Grindr.

L'archevêque du plus grand diocèse catholique d'Irlande, Diarmuid Martin, a justifié mardi sa décision d'envoyer plusieurs séminaristes au collège irlandais de Rome par l'atmosphère "délétère" qui régnait au sein du collège de Maynooth, situé près de Dublin, où étudient 55 séminaristes.

Selon le quotidien irlandais The Irish Independent, les séminaristes concernés seraient au nombre de trois. En mai, une lettre anonyme avait fait état de relations homosexuelles parmi certains étudiants et professeurs de ce collège pontifical. Ces assertions s'étaient ensuite répandues sur internet.

Interrogé mardi par la RTE, la chaîne nationale irlandaise, l'archevêque de Dublin, qui dit avoir échoué à entrer en contact avec le ou les auteurs des courriers anonymes, a jugé malvenue l'utilisation de l'application de rencontres homosexuelles Grindr par les séminaristes.

"Pas seulement parce qu'ils se forment au célibat, mais aussi parce qu'une telle application nourrit la promiscuité sexuelle, ce qui ne correspond pas à la vision mature de la sexualité que l'on attend des prêtres", a-t-il ajouté.

L'archevêque a par ailleurs jugé que la formation des prêtres serait plus propice hors "du monde étrange et fermé des séminaires".
